Around here, it is definitely wedding/anniversary season! This week, my husband and I will celebrate our 32nd anniversary. My daughter and her hubby enjoyed their second (and their first with a baby!). Also this month, my in-laws hit another matrimonial milestone. And my social media feed is full of wedding photos and anniversary wishes for lots of happy couples. 🥰
It got me thinking ... people put so much time, effort, and money into proposals, engagement photos (and parties now!), showers, bachelor/bachelorette weekends, wedding ceremonies, receptions, honeymoons, etc.
But is all of that what leads to a successful marriage? Is that what creates our happily ever after?
We know that it doesn't.
But what actually does lead to happily ever after?
Consistency and commitment.
Consistently choosing each other. Every day. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year. Decade after decade.
Isn't it the same with our health? What leads to longevity and quality of life?
It's not the initial purchase of expensive exercise equipment or a gym membership. It's not the crash diet you did two weeks before a school reunion. It's not the latest, greatest fad or trend in supplements or exercise. It's not the cute workout gear or shoes that you just KNOW will make you go to the gym or for more walks. It's not the fancy bike or new tennis racket. It's not the fitness tracker or watch with all the bells and whistles.
What is it?
Consistency and commitment.
Commitment to yourself, for yourself ... and consistency over time.
It is making better (not necessarily perfect) choices for your body consistently over time. Every day. Day after day. Week after week. Month after month. Year after year. Decade after decade.
